Afrimat Randfontein Cement Grinding Plant has vacancy for a:
Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Officer
Minimum Qualification / Experience:
- National Diploma in Environmental Management, Health, Science or other relevant qualifications
- National Diploma in Health and Safety, SAMTRAC or other relevant qualifications
- Preference will be shown to candidates with more than 2 years plus working experience in similar role
- Local exposure and regional knowledge will be an advantage
- Preference for EE candidate with relevant experience
- The candidate must be medically fit in terms the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Duties and responsibilities (not limited to):
- Active role in implementing and maintaining Afrimat’s SHE policies, systems and guidelines at the plant
- Plan, organize and implement relevant SHE activities and programmes in enhancing the plant safe work culture
- Provide expert advice and support on SHE issues to the plant management team in ensuring compliance and adherence to relevant local legislation, Afrimat’s SHE policies and standards as well as best industry practices
- Participate and advise the plant team and the management on SHE requirements regarding design and installation of new and modified facilities and equipment
- Advise on the management of contractors during major activities in the plant
- Liaise and act as the key communication link with the Regional Safety Manager and Environmental Specialist on matters pertaining to SHE
- Coordinate, monitor, review and prepare reports on SHE activities at the plant including implementation of systems and standards, monitoring and analysing the statistics and trends
- Participate in plant management committees and facilitate the plant SHE committees that are used as a platform to advise and manage health, safety and environmental impacts
- Participate in and provide input in the development of plant’s SHE annual objectives, targets and action plans as well and prepare SHE capital and operating budgets
- Conduct regular plant audits and inspections, and to provide recommendations with follow-up to ensure SHE performance improvement
- Participate in accident investigation and make sure all incidents, accidents and serious near-misses are fully investigated, closed out and properly communicated
- Coach, train and enhance the SHE awareness, knowledge and skills of the staff and contractors within the plant in equipping them with knowledge to work safely and with care for our environment
- Participate and contribute actively in the Afrimat SHE network
- Performs any other reasonable tasks when requested by Plant Manager
