Afrimat Mining Services, based in Lichtenburg (Lovedale) has a vacancy for a:
Locomotive / Train Driver x2
Minimum Qualifications / Experience:
- Grade 12 certificate
- Train driver certificate and licence required
- Good hand-eye-foot coordination and fine motor control
- Planning and effective communication skills
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Medical fitness
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Checks visually for any defects on the loco
- Checks fuel level and ensures that the quantity of fuel is enough for a 22-hour shift
- Shunts hoppers in the transport yard for repairs
- Transports raw material from Quarry to the Plant in Lichtenburg in a safe manner
- Checks for broken or damaged railway lines by ear and by doing a visual inspection
- Records railway line defects and specifies the location of the damaged lines
- Completes the log sheet for limestone transported between Quarry and Plant
- Assist in department’s housekeeping by keeping the cab of the loco clean
- Records any delays and reasons for such delays
- Reports any mechanical failures to the Engineering Supervisor
- Adheres to signals and speed limits on the railway
- Plans each trip, taking into account the shunting operations required and safety requirements thereof
- Communicates with and gives clear instructions to his shunter before every operation
- Works overtime when instructed to
- Performs any other reasonable tasks when requested by Manager
