HAS A VACANCY FOR:
Health and Safety Officer (Mpumalanga, Limpopo & Gauteng)
Minimum Qualification/Experience:
- Diploma / degree in Health and Safety (SAMTRAC or equivalent)
- Relevant experience in the mining and quarrying industry
- Must be able to work accurately with exceptional attention to detail
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be computer literate and have good administrative skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and legislative organisations
- Flexible working hours because of remoteness of the operational sites
- Willing to travel
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to the following):
- Ensure compliance with Regulation 2.19.1, 2.19.2, 2.19.3, and 2.19.4 of the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 (Act No. 29 of 1996) regarding Safety Officer Functions.
- Oversee and manage day-to-day SHHEQ (Safety, Health, Hygiene, Environment, and Quality) functions.
- Assist with and ensure compliance with all administrative functions related to the company's SHHEQ management system.
- Become familiar with the client's specifications and standards, ensuring compliance, particularly with Contractors Management (maintenance of the operational SHHEQ file).
- Assist the company in complying with current SHHEQ legislation as per the legal register of various legislations, including but not limited to OHSA, MHSA, BCEA, NEMA, etc.
- Conduct and assist with the recording, reporting, and investigation of incidents and accidents. Monitor action plans for the implementation of recommendations.
- Raise SHHEQ awareness in your areas of responsibility.
- Perform periodic workplace and equipment inspections and audits (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
